This guide will help you connect the Auriteq DAW controller to Cubase or Nuendo.
Step 1: Install and Open the Auriteq App
- Install and launch the Auriteq app on your computer.
- In the app, select Cubase (or Nuendo) as your DAW.
The app will copy the Auriteq MIDI Remote script into your Steinberg user folder so Cubase and Nuendo can recognize the controller. This happens automatically the first time you launch each new version of the app - no button to click.
The script is installed to:

Step 2: Set Up MIDI Ports
On macOS, no setup is required — Auriteq creates its own virtual MIDI ports automatically. You can skip to Step 3.
On Windows, Windows does not provide native virtual MIDI ports, so Cubase and Nuendo need a bridge. You will install loopMIDI (a free tool by Tobias Erichsen) and create two loopback ports. Two are required so MIDI messages don't feed back into their own sender — one port carries traffic to Cubase, the other back to Auriteq.
- Open the Auriteq app and go to the Settings tab. Under Windows MIDI bridge · loopMIDI, click Download loopMIDI and install it.
- Open loopMIDI. In the New port-name field at the bottom, type each name below and click the + button after each one to add it:

- Leave loopMIDI running in the background. It will re-create the ports automatically each time Windows starts.
- Restart the Auriteq app so it can bind to the new ports.
The port names must match exactly. If loopMIDI is not running or the ports have different names, Auriteq will show a red warning in the settings and Cubase will not see the controller.
Step 3: Open Cubase or Nuendo
Launch Cubase or Nuendo. Auriteq will be detected automatically as a MIDI Remote device — no manual configuration required. Cubase remembers the device across restarts on both macOS and Windows, so you only need to do this once.
To confirm the device was detected, open the MIDI Remote panel from Cubase's lower zone (click the MIDI Remote tab at the bottom of the main window). You should see Auriteq listed as a connected surface.
Step 4: If Cubase Does Not Auto-Detect the Controller
In rare cases (for example, if you started Cubase before loopMIDI on Windows), you may need to add the surface manually:
- In Cubase/Nuendo, open Studio → MIDI Remote Manager.
- Click Add MIDI Controller Surface.
- Pick Auriteq from the Vendor / Device list.
- Set the input and output ports:

Step 5: Allow macOS Accessibility Permissions
On macOS, the first time you launch the Auriteq app you will be asked to grant Accessibility permission. Please allow it when prompted.
This permission is required for features such as assigning track colors, renaming tracks, and inserting plug-ins from the controller — these use macOS-level automation that only works with the permission granted.
If the prompt does not appear, or a controller function does not work, enable the permission manually:
- Open System Settings
- Go to Privacy & Security → Accessibility
- Make sure Auriteq is enabled in the list
- If Auriteq is not listed, click the + button, add the Auriteq app, and enable it
After enabling the permission, restart the Auriteq app and Cubase/Nuendo.
You can check the current permission status from the Auriteq app under Settings → General → Permissions.
Compatibility
- Control-surface features (transport, mixer, track selection, plug-in parameters, timeline navigation) work on Cubase 13.0.51+ and Nuendo 14.0.10+.
- Plug-in insertion from the controller requires Cubase 15.0.20+ or Nuendo 15+ (uses Cubase's Plug-in Manager API, which was introduced in Cubase 15.0.20).
